The first annual award PREMIO IED - a prize set up by the Italian ISTITUTO EUROPEO DI DESIGN - has been assigned in Cagliari (Italy), last January 25th, 2012. Established in Milano over forty years ago, the IED is nowadays a rapidly expanding international network operating in the fields of education and research in Design, Fashion, Visual Communication and Management; it has branches in, Milano, Roma, Torino, Venezia, Firenze, Cagliari, Madrid, Barcelona, São Paulo and over ten thousands students coming from ninety different countries. Its success has since ever been based on search and pursuit of excellence and aknowledgement of talents. Setting such price up IED/Cagliari has meant to honour those who, in Sardinia and in the world, within their own artistic, professional or entrepreneurial work have proven their talent and capacity of innovation. Among the ten artists, professionals, entrepreneurs and companies which, for different reasons, have been given the prize, architect Pierluigi Piu has been awarded with the following comment of the jury panel:
“...for the creativity and professionalism with which he has proven his talent in reconverting tradition into an original aesthetic and formal language which communicates and exports in the world a contemporary and innovative image of Sardinia”
